We are officially in The Holiday Season. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays, and all of that!. If you are trying to keep those unwanted pounds at bay, you will have to do some work. Stay active, and continue your normal workout schedule if possible. Stop Dieting And Start Living
You are selling yourself short if you are a slave to any type of diet. If you are following a regimen that is restricting certain food from your daily menu, then you need to keep reading. As a mature athlete, I have spent my fair share of time on “fad” diets. Some I had success, and some I did not. In the past, I have done The Paleo Diet, The Adkins Diet, The Lemonade Diet, The Starvation Diet, HCG Protocol, only to name a few. It takes time to find the best nutritional regimen that suits your health and well being. Ideally, you want to find foods/meals routine that are nutritious, balanced, and meets your satisfaction.
If weight loss is your goal, then plan on doing it at a slow pace. In order to lose weight, you simply need to eat less than you have been eating. Over time, you will decrease your body mass. It’s that simple. Speak to a Health Care Provider to determine whether weight loss is a healthy goal for you. Losing weight is not the same as being healthy. Researchers have found that 3 out of 4 adults are overweight or obese. When you have excess bodyfat around your waist, this could increase your risk of Type 2 diabetes, chronic health conditions, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers. It’s up to you to correct your health situation.

Cutting calories can help you lose weight, because it creates a caloric deficit. By consuming fewer calories than you are burning through your metabolism and daily activity.
You can lose about a pound a week, just by eating about 500 calories less than you usually do. I never count calories. I have managed to get to my ideal weight with this method.
Here are a few other tips that I follow.
- Reduce portion size
- Limit high caloric beverages, like cokes, sweet drinks
- Make food swaps
- Fill up with plenty of water, protein and fiber
- Try baking or broiling meats instead of frying
- Best practice is to relax, use common sense, and don’t stress about your weight.
- Remember to exercise, have fun, and enjoy life.
Kingsley Plantation Jacksonville Florida A Story of Freedom and Slavery
In 1814, Zephaniah Kingsley moved to Fort George Island and established a plantation. He brought with him his wife and three children.(Their fourth child would be born on the plantation). His wife, Anna Madgigine Jai, was from Senegal, Africa, and was purchased by Kingsley as a enslaved person. This plantation is the oldest still standing plantation in Florida.

Happy New Year Everyone! Wishing you a Healthy and Prosperous year. Health and fitness has always been my lifestyle. As a high school and collegiate athlete, I simply try to practice a healthy lifestyle. Although it has been 45 years since my college days, my lifestyle goals are to eat a nutritious diet, and get plenty of exercise.
Over the years, I’ve been a member of a few different gyms. During my bodybuilding days, I was a member of Pacific Gym, Gold’s Gym, and 24-Hour Fitness. Once I move to Florida, I joined World’s Gym, and YMCA. Now that I’m over 65 years old, It is important to me to find a gym that I’m comfortable going.I canceled my membership to YMCA because I was paying $45/month for the membership. I recently joined Planet Fitness, and that is the reason for this video, to give my personal opinion about the Brand Planet Fitness. I’ve been going about 3 months, the video below describes what I think of PF.

If you have been diagnosed with Hypertension,(HBP), it is very important to check your numbers daily. It is estimated that over 100 million adults are being treated for symptoms of elevated blood pressure. What exactly is high blood pressure and why does it matter?. Hypertension is a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high. Usually HBP is defined as blood pressure above 140/90. It is considered severe if it goes above 180/120. If go untreated, it could lead to health conditions such as heart disease and or stroke. Many people take medication prescribed by their Physician. In addition, there are things we can do to lower our numbers naturally.
Eating a healthier diet, with less salt, exercising regularly, getting plenty of rest and sleep.

Get Ready For Jacksonville Senior Games September 24-October 2, 2021
This year’s Jacksonville Games will be one of the most exciting and fun events for Mature and Seniors all over the Jacksonville, Florida area. The event is held to promote and encourage healthy and active lifestyles for Men and Women over the age of 50. The games are designed for seasoned athletes to take part in various sports on a competitive level or novice athletes to take part in various sports for their own enjoyment. I have participated in the games since 2008.
