Semaglutide: Is this the Answer to Weight Loss

Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as 3 separate brand name medications—Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. Each brand name comes with its own associated indications, preparations, and dosages to consider.

Ozempic is also approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and known heart disease.

I wanted to try Semaglutide for myself to see how I would do on the program. There is a small Spa at the gym where I workout that provides a Semaglutide weight loss program.

The cost was $400/month. I had already decided that I would give it 8 weeks trial.

Here is what I discovered:

I was not hungry at all. I really had to make myself fix a plate and eat it. I works very well for appetite suppression. A lot of people suffer from many side effects. The only time I felt a little nausea is right after a injection. No other symptoms for me. I learned to eat plenty of protein the night before my next dose, and no food before the shot. After that I was fine. I also learned to rotate shot injection sites. Right shoulder, left shoulder, then thighs.

I lost 21 pounds. I went from 203, to 182 pounds. I was very proud of myself. This is no magic bullet. It takes work and dedication. I was on a keto diet, and I worked out 3-4 times a week at the gym. I clocked 10, 000 steps a day, and drank 64 oz of water daily. I would not take this medicine again. It was too costly, and I have lost 10 pounds a month doing keto and intermittent fasting. I had to limit what I ate, and was always worried, I would get sick.

This is just my experience. Everyone is different. I’m 68 years old, and I understand I will be different from a 30 year old. I also noticed muscle loss. I weight lift at the gym, and I still noticed the loss. In my opinion, the bad side effects outweigh the weight loss and gains.

I started July 9, 2024, took my last shot Sept 9, 2024. Good luck to everyone.
